I grabbed Apple’s exam preparation document for the level 1 Final Cut Pro 6 test. I plan on adding this guide to my Moodle site, but here is the fcp6-practice-exam to help you prepare right now.
You will also find my flash cards on a previous post.
Use these resources to help you prepare for your Final Cut Pro 6 level one certification exam.

DO YOU HAVE FLASHCARDS FOR THE MOTION 3 CERTIFICATION EXAM?
I just passed the Motion 3 certification exam myself. I am planning on creating those Motion 3 flash cards before I go to the Train-the-Trainer for Motion in Boston in a couple of weeks. I should have them on my blog in a week or two.
please drop me an email when it’s up. thx. Meantime, any details re the exam would be helpful. I plan to take it hopefully within two weeks.
Also, did you take a course? I’m doing it independently. Loathe the book, exercises should be on video. Motion 2 doesn’t lend itself to the cookbook format.
Hi Laura,
I’ve just stumbled across your FCP Exam prep guide. I wondered if you had one for Level 2 as well? I’ve passed the Level 1 but missed out on Level 2 by two questions and am very apprehensive about sitting it again! Alternatively, if you could point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful!
I am sorry. I don’t have level 2 cards, yet. I will have them in a couple months, but I am working to finish off this semester by grading, writing, and lots of prep for the classes I teach.
Hi Laura,
I’ve taken the FCP 200 test twice and failed both times by only a couple of questions. I’m very comfortable using FCP and do very well taking the practice exams. I do find that some of the questions are awkwardly worded but nonetheless I was confident going into this last test that I would pass. Do you have any words of wisdom to pass along? I’ m growing more and more despondent as the days go along. Thanks in advance to any advice you could give me.
Terry, Do not give up. Make sure you study about effects, filters, and editing to the timeline. It is important that you know the difference between the ripple, roll, and slip tools. Have you shot and edited a couple of practice videos? Have you used some of the new FCP 6 extras like master templates, audio normalization, and smooth cam?
I always tell my students to create at least 2 videos start to finish before taking the exam. Use as many options from the software as you can. Use all the timeline editing tools and practice using motion attributes. Apply filters and effects. Be especially careful that you white balance your videos with the three-way color corrector. Practice keyframing motion parameters and audio levels. Passing the test is more about practicing the use of the software rather than just studying.
I got a short question.
Is Practice exam obligatory before taking the actual level one exam? Do I HAVE to pass the practice exam first, or I can take the Level One test right away?
You do not need to take the practice exam first.
