Teaching Apple’s Motion 3

I am an Apple certified trainer for their pro application for motion graphics called Motion. It is a fun but difficult program to learn. There is so much to it, including all manner of filters and behaviors.

I am spending the week teaching two wonderful students how to use Motion. One is preparing to take the certification exam. But they both require thorough learning of this program because they are both working on very important video projects that needs some motion graphics. Apple recommends this class takes 3 days to teach, what a gigantic joke! I will end up teaching it effectively over 5 days, no less. I just can’t rush through such unfamiliar material and expect my students to get much out of the class. Goodness, the class cost is $1500 and I need to make it worth their time and money and learning needs.

But the most difficult part of learning Motion is an introduction to editing video in 3D space. This is especially true because it is very easy to get lost in 3D space in the Motion interface because the Motion universe is very large and it is easy to lose elements such as images, video clips, and text objects. Those objects are not very big in the large 3D space, so when you try to look around and explore the universe it is way too easy to easy to lose your way. I hope to put up a couple of resources to learn tricks in Motion. Stay tuned!

It is a great program, teach it off and on in Apple land, and use it in my video business, 3D has been the bear for me to learn, hard to wrap my head around it, could be the fact that I am in my mid 50’s and have those flashbacks from the 80s But it is soooo cool.
