Sometimes you have images that you download or just want to add to your iPhone or iPod Touch. For example, I create flash cards as images and then go through them one after another as I study.
I just shared my Motion 4 flash cards, and there are questions about how to add them to your iPhone or iTouch. So this post will teach you how to do just that, and when I talk about the iPhone and iPod Touch I will refer to them collectively as the iPhone (even though I am an iPod Touch user).
You do have to add the photos through iTunes, but going through the File menu will not work. You must attach your iPhone to your computer and go into the iTunes Device settings. Then click on the Photos tab.
You then have to turn on syncing of photos, and you must choose if you are syncing from Aperture, iPhoto or a folder. Note that this becomes the setting for all your albums, and you should decide what method you will use for all your iPhone images.
When you add photos from iPhoto or Aperture, you must choose an album or event. As a result, you must import the photos into iPhoto or Aperture.
iPhoto Syncing
In iPhoto, you create a new album.
With the new album selected, select your photos from the Finder and drag them into your new album.
Your album should then show up in iTunes when you select iPhoto syncing in iTunes. Select the checkbox next to your album name and hit the Apply button.
Aperture Syncing
In Aperture, you create a new Project.
Select your new Project and Select the Import button. Select the location of your images and then find them in the Import finder. Select the images you want imported then click the Import button.
You should then have your flash card images in your Aperture folder. To get your photos on your iPhone, go back to iTunes and select the Aperture sync option. Then place a check box next to your project name and select the Apply button.
Syncing a Folder
If you do not sync photos with either iPhoto or Aperture and you would rather sync with a folder on your computer, then choose a folder that holds all your images. Then choose your folders that you want synced and hit Apply.
Photo Album on the iPhone
Once you have your flash cards on your iPhone, you can go into the Photos app and select your album/project.
The photos are numbered sequentially from front to back for each flash card. You can select the first card and starting moving through the images as you study. You can make the little text bigger if you tilt your iPhone to the side.
