My New EdTech Blog Design

I have just updated the look to this, my educational technology blog. It has been a long time coming as I have longed to have a design that was personal rather than my updated, free WordPress theme from Scribble Scratch.

I use a WordPress blog that has been installed on my web site account with Dreamhost. Because my blog uses PHP and MySQL to run, I had to find some time to code the custom PHP to change my theme. My theme updates have been put off because I am so busy.

I did, however, get some help from others. Rebecca Servoss of Persnickety Graphics created the header graphic. The lovely folks at Heaven Graphics created the plaid background graphic. I also used the “Unraveled CSS Tabs” code for my main, horizontal navigation buttons because it works properly in most browsers. All of the remaining design images, design code and PHP setup was completed by me.

I decided to use lots of color because I like creating bold web sites that use color to express something about the web site owner. I also decided to use more advanced design code because I am tired of catering to old browsers all the time. I have not strayed far from conventional design elements, but I have included a few fun elements:

Rounded corners

  • horz navigtion
  • rounded corners
  • rounded corners2
  • Drop Shadow text on headers

    • drop shadow1
    • drop shadow2
    • drop shadow 3

    Exact text positioning

    • calendar text

I hope that all of you have taken my earlier recommendation and updated your browsers to the latest versions. Because I am using the latest and not fully supported design elements, you will have a better time going through my site if you use Firefox, Safari, or Opera browsers.
