TeacherFEST Call For Proposals

posted Jun 1, 2016, 8:25 AM by Doug Saunders   [ updated Jun 1, 2016, 5:08 PM by Doug Saunders ]

http://blogs.henrico.k12.va.us/teacherfest/call-for-proposals/

Our theme this year is focused on the journey of teaching. As educators we experience:
  • Anticipation: Putting into practice something new to spark learning!
  • Continuation: Doing what you already do, but better!
  • Rejuvenation: Igniting your passion for learning with a big idea!
  • Reflection: Learning from expertise and experiences!
As you consider a topic you would like to present, reflect on how it fits into your journey and how it could inspire other people on theirs.

Click here for direction on writing up an enticing proposal. All proposals are due by June 8th. Notifications of acceptance will be no later than June 15th. Conference registration should be completed via. ERO. For more conference information, please click here.

Here is a little bit of footage shot during last night's Henrico 21 ceremony. I used newly developed software by Adobe - called Spark to tell this story. It allows for online video creation using your computer or mobile device. Students are able to sign in with their existing Google Accounts when creating a movie or webpage. You can check it out here: https://spark.adobe.com/

Google Slides Q & A

Audience Participation With Google Slides
Yesterday Google released an awesome update to Google Slides. Presenters can now provide audience members with a web link that will allow them to post and vote on questions during a Google Slide presentation. You can even project and share and display the most relevant questions on the fly for all audience members to preview. Google also added the integration of a laser pointer as well. Check out the video below to see how these new features can be implemented.

Diigo Outliner

Diigo Outliners

Earlier this year I blogged about my favorite bookmarking service - Diigo. Diigo keeps my life organized by storing all of my bookmarks in the cloud. Since they are stored in the cloud, I am able to access my bookmarks from any device. If I need to find a link that I bookmarked 3 months ago, I can search right from Chrome's Omnibox by keyword and the link appears right before my very eyes. For example, if I need to access one of many agendas I just type "agenda" and I am presented with links to following agendas:

If I am searching for a specific agenda I can type "agenda ITRT" and the list will become even more concise. This year I took advantage of Diigo Outliners when planning for Henrico 21. If I do a keyword search in Diigo for "Henrico 21" I am presented with 34 links. In order to organize those links, I added them to an Outliner. The outline contained notes with important dates and various links on a single page. Once the outline was complete I created a public link and shared it with those teachers involved in the Henrico 21 process. You can access that planning outline by clicking here.

H21 Submissions for 2016

Thank You To All Who Submitted a Henrico 21 Lesson!

A huge thank you to those of you that have opted to submit a lesson to this year's Henrico 21. Student driven lessons are the reason why most of us began teaching in the first place, and I am happy that Henrico County Public Schools has a venue that properly acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and impact that you have on your students. I know there are some teachers whom currently have some great lessons in the works and did not quite meet the deadline for this year. Any lesson or project you complete from this period on can be submitted for the following school year. Additionally, I would like to give a well-deserved shout out to the individuals on the Leadership team who are in the process of helping me to determine our overall in-house winners for this year. We should have the final results tabulated in the near future, but I look forward to recognizing everyone who submitted a lesson during a faculty meeting in the coming weeks. Feel free to click on the images below to check out this year's submissions.
