The time has arrived for Holman Middle School students to migrate to the new Google Apps domain. This new domain will provide our students with an automated syncing feature as well as grant them access to a filtered Gmail address. This is a 1 time transfer that all students will need to make on Wednesday, January 31st during Huskie 21 from 8:30 - 9:15. Once the transfer is complete students will log into their Google accounts using the address rather than the former address. Teacher accounts will remain the same and are not affected by this change. I have already worked with a few classrooms whom have been able to seamlessly transition to the new domain. It should only take approximately 10 - 15 minutes of class time to migrate your students. Some teachers may elect to have students spend some time using Google Takeout in order to download any documents residing in the old domain to their computer's hard drive. I have put together a Google Slides presentation to better assist Huskie 21 teachers in guiding their class through this fairly painless procedure. I will be available for optional training during your planning on January 15th in order to help walk you through this process.

Email Do's & Don'ts

Q: What are the differences between the and domains? (Students Only)
A: The major difference is in how the accounts are created and managed. They will now be synchronized with HCPS' Active Directory structure and the process will be automated. This will remove the need for manual account creation. GMAIL accounts will be provisioned for all HS students.

Q: What will happen to my HCPS Google docs if I do not change to the new domain?
A: It will be deleted on June 16, 2014 and any content in that account will no longer be available. It is crucial that all users transfer account materials before June 16, 2014.

Q: What filters will apply to the student use of their HCPS Gmail account?
A: Students are expected to adhere to AUP and Code of Conduct guidelines when using their HCPS provisioned email account. A blacklist filter is in place and it will block any inappropriate content from being sent over the network.

Q:  How does this effect teacher Google Accounts? Do they have to migrate?

A:  Teachers do NOT have to migrate.  Teachers re-share documents with new student accounts as needed.
