Plickers

A few weeks ago an elementary ITRT showed me a nifty little student response system that they have been using at the elementary level. Although this app is not quite as relevant when working in a one to one classroom, it is still pretty awesome. Basically a teacher prints out a set of response reader cards from the Plickers website for each student in the class. As you can see from the image below the shapes are numbered and have a letter to represent the multiple choice options asked by the teacher. If Student 1 wants to answer choice "B" they just need to hold the card so that "B" is facing up.

Once all the students in the class are holding up their assigned card with their chosen response the teacher scans the room with their cell phone in order to tally all of the responses. This provides the teacher with instant feedback from the class and allows for all students to answer without feeling self conscious. You can set up different classes and assign student names to each of the cards by setting up a free account on the Plickers website.
