Middle Schools throughout the county have been asked to have 8th grade students complete 7 online Internet safety modules. The modules require very little effort on the teacher end, and the program is designed to have students complete each module individually and at their own pace. Your role as the teacher is to get the students up and running.
I plan on having a brief training (TBD) to help each of you get set up. Below are the steps we will go through in preparation for the upcoming Ignition internet safety training session. All of the steps are listed in detail in the teacher guide (link provided below), but here is the basic break down:
Completed in Training Together
Create a Teacher Account
Go to Website: http://ignition.everfi.net
Enter email address and select "I am a Teacher"
Fill in information as prompted. Holman Middle School Site Code: a6a3e2ee
Click "Create an Account"
You will be taken to the dashboard
Don't forget to write down your username and password
Create Your First Class (8th Grade Only)
From Dashboard, under "Quick Actions" select "Create Class Code"
Enter name of class (ex. Saunders Block 5) and a brief description (Internet safety program to be completed for 8th graders).
Class code will be generated and listed at the top of the page. It will also be emailed to you.
To be completed in Class
Student Self Registration
Go to Website: http://ignition.everfi.net
Select "I am a student"
Give students class code (Write on board)
Tell students to use their standard HCPS login information when they register.
Use teacher guide to give students overview of the program, what they will be doing, etc. and then get them started. This is a 1:1 program so students will work independently and at their own pace. If you have students without a computer they can either work with a partner and/or use a computer of a classmate after they have finished the assigned module for the day. Students have to complete the modules in order and the program will always pick up where they leave off.
